How to use and store rubber sealing rings
Time:2025-09-02 16:11:17hits:

One should understand the function of rubber sealing rings better than others. O-rings are used in hydraulic and pneumatic systems as well as various mechanical equipment and components. They play a sealing role under specified pressure, temperature and different liquid and gas media, whether static or in motion. All these people should understand this difference, but do you know how to make O-rings function better? First of all, we should know that O-rings are usually not reusable. Secondly, when the O-ring is installed in the groove, it should be noted that the O-ring should not be twisted, and the sealing medium should be coated on both the groove and the O-ring.

Another point is that when rubber O-rings are not in use, we should try not to open the original packaging of the O-rings to prevent dust or foreign objects from damaging them.

If O-rings are to be stored, they should be kept away from direct sunlight or placed near high-temperature heat sources such as boilers to prevent premature aging of the O-rings.

It should be particularly noted that during storage, O-rings may occasionally change color, that is, white powder will form on the surface of the O-rings. However, don't worry. This won't have an adverse effect on the function of the O-ring.

Storage conditions for rubber O-rings

O-rings are affected by various external environmental factors, such as deformation, oxygen, ozone, light, heat sources, humidity, oil or chemical solvents, etc. O-rings may fail due to changes in their physical and chemical properties. It basically stipulates the storage, cleaning and maintenance of rubber sealing parts.

Temperature :5-25℃ is the ideal storage temperature. Avoid contact with heat sources and sunlight. Seals taken out of low-temperature storage should be placed in an environment of 20℃ before use.

Humidity 2: The relative humidity in the warehouse should be below 70% to prevent excessive dampness or dryness and condensation.

3: Lighting: Avoid direct sunlight and strong artificial light sources containing ultraviolet rays. Uv-resistant packaging bags offer the best protection. It is suggested that the Windows of the warehouse be painted red or orange or covered with film.

Radiation: Avoid ionizing radiation from damaging the seals.

Oxygen and ozone: Rubber materials should be kept away from circulating air. This can be achieved through packaging, winding, storage in airtight containers or other appropriate methods. Ozone is harmful to most elastomers. The following equipment should be avoided in the warehouse: mercury vapor lamps, high-voltage electrical equipment, motors and other devices.

Deformation: Rubber components should be placed as freely as possible to avoid stretching, compression or other deformations.

Contact with liquid or semi-solid materials: solvent-free, oil, grease or other semi-solid materials.

Contact with metallic or non-metallic materials is not allowed: magnetic materials, cast iron, copper and its alloys, or materials that may damage rubber. Polyvinyl chloride materials cannot be used for packaging seals. Seals of different materials must not be mixed.

Cleaning: Soap and water can be used to clean the seal as needed. However, water is not allowed to come into contact with fiber-reinforced seals, rubber-metal bonded seals and gold material seals. Disinfectants, organic solvents and sharp tools must not be used. The cleaned seal should be dried at room temperature and must not be placed near heat sources.
